Dr. eng. Rumyan Petkov

Dr. Eng. Rumyan Petkov is a water infrastructure consultant with more than 16 years of professional experience in water supply, sewerage, hydraulic modelling, and water and wastewater infrastructure engineering.
He holds a PhD in Natural Water Treatment from the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy (UACEG), Sofia. His doctoral research focused on the stabilization treatment of drinking water within the Sofia water supply system. His professional interests include hydraulic analysis and optimization of water supply and sewerage systems, stormwater management, drinking water treatment, and the application of advanced engineering technologies in water infrastructure design.
He is a member of the Chamber of Engineers in Investment Design (CEID), Bulgaria, and the Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos – Madrid, and holds professional engineering qualifications in both Bulgaria and Spain.
He has participated in more than 150 projects in Bulgaria and abroad, including large-scale water infrastructure, industrial facilities, residential developments, water and wastewater treatment facilities, and data centres in Zaragoza, Spain. As part of his professional experience, he serves as Lead Designer for Hydraulics and Water Infrastructure for the supporting infrastructure of Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant Units 7 & 8 (AP1000), within an international multidisciplinary project environment involving Hyundai E&C and Westinghouse. His experience also includes industrial projects for Aurubis Bulgaria and Agropolychim.
His areas of expertise include hydraulic modelling, stormwater management, optimization of water supply and sewerage systems, and infrastructure planning for complex investment projects. His work covers the full engineering process — from concept development and hydraulic studies to detailed design, multidisciplinary coordination, and technical consultancy.
He has extensive experience working with international design teams, consultants, and investors on infrastructure and industrial projects in Bulgaria, Spain, and the Middle East. He works professionally in English and Spanish.
